Generic Conventions- Comedy-Drama

Themes
  • Sexual Innuendoes
  • Romance
  • Find something/Get something/Cover up/Go somewhere
These themes are what is normally associated with the comedy genre. I will be using all of these to create a familiar environment for the viewers to enjoy. I will also will change and add certain features in order to keep the audience entertained

Characters and actors
Here is a short animoto describing the typical characters and actors-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5QzdYt2q54

Cinematic style-
The typical cinematic style for a comedy-drama is use of language and some added slapstick. The use of these combined work to create a highly enjoyable experience for the viewer. This can be seen in things such as hangover. Where they use a mix of funny language and physical humor such as a monkey to create a well received comedy. The mixture of the two helps allow the audience to get a large enjoyment. In my cinematic style that I have used in my introduction is mainly language. The reason for this being effective as this allows for the audience to be introduced into the films world and is a subtle showing into the world.

Representation-
The way race is generally represented is through stereotyping. They do this in order to create comedy from the characters and also in order to instantly connect and understand the characters. This is called the short cut method. It is atypical with the comedy genre as with most characters they play to you expectations.

The way gender is usually represented is that the male 'pack' is the lead and the women are either marginalized or hyper-sexualized. This is due to the fact women aren't normally the leads in majority of comedy's bar the likes of pitch perfect and bridesmaids. This could be due to the fact the vast majority of the comedy genres audience is males 30 or younger. There are still females in the audience but they are less likely to enjoy it for the same reasons as the males.

I will play to majority of stereotypes and representations but I won't marginalize women as one of the main protagonists mentioned will be female. This helps bring in a wider audience to enjoy my film.

Iconography-
Alcoholism
Parties
Drugs
Bars/Strip clubs
Sex

These are just some of the many things you expect to see when watching the average comedy film. I will be using some of the notable iconography such as alcoholism, drugs and parties. This helps verify my films genre to the audience

Target Audience

I have chosen the to aim my film at an audience of 15+. This is due to the nature of the film. I also think audiences of 15+ will enjoy this film more than a younger audience. This is due to the fact the audience will relate more to the cast as they will be the same age.

An audience of 15+ they wants things like alcohol references, drug references, sexual referances and violence.

In will appeal to two factors alcohol and drug references. I have chosen these factors as they are easier to do with the resources we have.

All alcohol will be a placebo as will the drugs
